D-Bafanas Trading, based in the Thembeni Area of KwaDukuza, was formed in 2021 to drill and construct boreholes. The company is unique in the sense that it drills manually, up to a depth of 40 meters.
Through competitiveness and reliability, D-Bafanas wants to be a profitable and sustainable supplier of boreholes beyond iLembe to the whole of KZN. Hand-dug boreholes provide several benefits, especially in areas where mechanized drilling equipment is not readily available or the terrain is difficult to access. It is a viable option for communities with limited financial resources. Suited for areas with shallow water tables, hand-drilling is gentler on the environment and often involves local communities in the process – fostering a sense of ownership, and ensuring a sustainable water supply.
